Bruno Burritos was started to address two big issues that are close to Bruno the Donkey's heart:
Donkey welfare & Burrito quality!
Donkey welfare: we want to shine light on a little known issue: the extinction of donkeys (also fondly known as "burros" in Spanish) around the world. Once a staple of Mexico’s rural lifestyle, the donkey population in Mexico has declined considerably. From 1.5 Millions in 1991, it is now estimated that there are less than 300,000 donkeys left in Mexico, which means that a 75% of the donkey population has disappeared in only 29 years.
Unfortunately it is a worldwide issue as the demand for Donkey meat is increasing in China and creating a whole international trade market for it. So many communities in Africa still rely on donkeys and their livelihood is getting heavily impacted as well. To bring awareness to this global challenge, we started a campaign called #savetheburros
Secondly, San Diego used to be the Mecca of burritos but in the last decade, San Diego’s reputation in the burrito world has continued to deteriorate. It is time we do something about it! We want to reclaim our spot at the top of the Burrito world.
At Bruno Burritos, we offer you a selection of burritos you cannot find anywhere else! We hope to inspire a movement towards better burritos and create the neo-burrito culture of the future! #betterburritos
Of course we couldn't offer up San Diego's better burritos without better beverages and dessert: Check out Bruno's Agave Hard Seltzer's and Churros!
For each burrito ordered, we’re donating $1 to Burrolandia, a donkey sanctuary close to Mexico City. Due to the pandemic & the lack of visitors, they are struggling to feed & care for the donkeys in the sanctuary.
